Our privacy policy is being finalized.
We haven't published our full privacy policy yet. It will be posted on this page before Conference Buddy opens its waitlist or any other public signup. The sections below already apply.
SMS messages
If you choose to get text messages, we keep your mobile number and, for each consent you give, the time you gave it and the version of the consent text you were shown. There are two separate consents, both off until you check them: event reminders for events you save, and recurring automated texts that include event reminders and news and offers from Conference Buddy and ValidData.
No texts are sent yet: texts start when SMS launches. You can save your number and choices in Settings now, and change or remove them there at any time.
Once texts start, we use your number only to send the texts you agreed to. Consent is not a condition of signing up. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel or HELP for help, or turn either consent off in Settings at any time.
We do not sell your number or consent, and we do not share your number or consent with ValidData or any third party for their own marketing. ValidData appears only as a named source of news and offers in texts we send, and only if you agreed to the second consent. Our Terms cover the same SMS rules.
App notifications
If you turn on app notifications, we keep your browser's push subscription (an address from your browser's push service and two keys), the name of the browser, and when you turned it on, so we can remind you an hour before each event you save. We also record which reminders we have sent, so none is sent twice.
Turn app notifications off in Settings and the subscription is deleted. Deleting your account deletes both. We do not use them for anything else.
Ethnicity and gender (optional)
You can choose to tell us your ethnicity and your gender. Both are optional, and “Prefer not to say” is always available. We only use what you tell us. We never infer either one from your name, photo or anything else.
These answers are private to you. They are not shown on your profile, in attendee lists, in exports, in analytics or in logs. We use them only to suggest communities and conferences that may fit you. You can change or remove them at any time in your profile, and they are deleted when you delete your account.
You can add your LinkedIn profile address to your profile. Separately, there is an unchecked box that lets Conference Buddy use your LinkedIn profile to personalize your matches. We use it for that only if you check the box. There is no LinkedIn sign-in today, and we do not connect to your LinkedIn account.
